A LOCAL MAN ARRESTED FOR ILLEGAL DRUG TRAFFICKING ACTIVITIES

Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) had apprehended a 32-year-old local man in the vicinity of his residence in Kampong Mumong, Kuala Belait suspected to be involved in illegal drug trafficking activities.

Items seized during the arrest were several plastic packages containing crystallized substances believed to be Methamphetamine or Syabu weighing more than 30 grams, estimated to be worth more than BND$6000.00. Also seized were a digital weighing device believed to be used for illegal drug trafficking activities and cash of several currencies amounting to more than BND$2500.00 believed to be proceeds from drug activities.

Investigations into this case are ongoing under:

  • Section 3A of Misuse of Drugs Acts (MDA), Chapter 27 for the possession of controlled drugs for the purpose of trafficking that carries a minimum penalty of 5 years of imprisonment and 5 strokes and a maximum penalty of 20 years of imprisonment and 15 strokes; and
  • Section 6(b) of MDA, Chapter 27 for the consumption of controlled drugs that carries a penalty of imprisonment of up to 10 years or a fine of $20,000 or both.

NCB wishes to remind the public that drug offences are regarded as serious offences and any involvements in any form of drug activities may carry capital punishment under the MDA, Chapter 27. Resorting drug trafficking as a means to generate an income is not a solution to financial problems as it will destroy one's future. Drug abuse activities would give a negative impact on the stability and security of our country.
